Giving Tuesday – A Spotlight On The Chester Children’s Chorus

Education is a high priority in our household. Our parents, who were both teachers achieved their mission of making sure that we each got the appropriate education to suit our learning styles. They also instilled in us the importance and impact of service to others, and we each continue to find ways to honor this in both our personal and professional lives.
As a result, every year John Neill Painting seeks out local non-profit organizations in need to assist with donations, either in kind or through funding to further their mission.
Last year we were introduced to John Alston and the Chester Children’s Chorus. While we did make a monetary donation, we were also excited to help promote their Spring Concert Series, which unfortunately was canceled for safety reasons due to the pandemic.
Director, John Alston’s childhood was dramatically changed by his experience with the Newark Boys Choir. This introduction to the discipline of time and practice required to excel, along with the experience of learning to sing complex compositions in a large group gave him the skills needed to graduate from Swarthmore College, then move on to Indiana University where he completed his doctorate.
His deep love of music helped him discover his purpose, which lead to founding the Chester Children’s Chorus, where he teaches children from the third grade and up thinking, discipline, and practice through their shared gift of song. With a deep understanding of the importance of a solid educational foundation, the program also includes tutoring in both math and language arts to develop well rounded young men and women, preparing them for life beyond high school.
In spite of not being able to gather to sing over the last eight months, John and all of the staff and volunteers from the organization continued their academic work with the children, offering stability and a much needed continued connection to the community during these trying times.
As we enter another season of giving, we would like to re-introduce you to the Chester Children’s Chorus and share the exciting news of their Virtual Holiday Concert Special on December 12th at 7 pm.
We invite you to watch the Anniversary Video of the Chester Children’s Chorus and consider joining us in supporting this worthwhile organization. It is living proof that when we care for every person in our community, we are all ultimately more successful.
And, after hearing their story and their voices, you feel moved to donate, you can do so here: Make a Gift
Wishing you a wonderful start to the Holiday Season and happy #givingtuesday
With Our Gratitude,
Suhaiba Neill – on behalf of the entire John Neill Painting & Decorating Family

Historic Restoration in Society Hill Philadelphia

In this historic restoration in Society Hill, this week we had the privilege of painting all of the ironwork at the historic Powel House in preparation for their 250th Anniversary Celebration. The flagship home of the Philadelphia Society for the Preservation of Landmarks, this 18th century Georgian home is one of the finest examples of the architecture of the time, and also played a major part in the more recent reconstruction of Society Hill. If you’ll be in the city this weekend and are looking for something to do, consider attending their Garden Party to see this Historic Landmark up close in all it’s glory.

PC Gives – Giving Hope and Smiles

As a local small business, we love supporting other local small businesses. Especially when they are focused on helping out in our community. Philly Current (a fabulous magazine about all things Philadelphia) is currently running a wonderful campaign called “PC Gives.” Your donations will go directly to CHOP to help the many children battling cancer this holiday season. And because the team at Philly Current is just that cool, they’re offering up some great prize opportunities in exchange for your donation. The contest ends on Thursday, December 18th, so click on the link now and bring a smile and some hope to a local child this holiday season.

Preparing for the U.S. Open

When preparing for the US Open at the Merion Golf Club in 2013, they turned to John Neill Painting & Decorating for all their painting needs!
For all of the golf lovers out there, you probably already know that the Merion Golf Club will be hosting the prestigious U.S. Open in 2013. In preparation for the big event, the club  turned to us for all of their painting needs.

We are finishing up the interior of the men’s locker room  this week and will be moving on to the exterior of the clubhouse in the weeks to come. We are thrilled to be a part of an amazing opportunity for the Main Line and Philadelphia to take center stage next summer. If you’re lucky enough to have tickets, be sure to check out the freshly painted clubhouse if you can.
If you have a special event of your own coming up this spring or summer, now is the best time to take care of any painting or decorating updates you want to have completed. Planning ahead and taking care of the bigger “to do’s” first will leave you with more time and less stress to take care of all the other details.

National Mom and Pop Business Owners Day

National Mom and Pop Business Owners Day is Always March 29th.
National Mom and Pop Business Owners Day celebrates small business owners. These individuals spend countless hours nurturing and growing their young enterprises. The workload demands, and lack of a hired staff, often translates into long and late hours, and many missed family and personal events. But, all in all, they love what they do. After all, they are their own boss.
New businesses have always been a vital, yet not fully appreciated, part of the U.S. economy. On they retail side, they bring different and unique products to the marketplace. They provide stellar and personal service support. When you call, you are more likely to get a real, live person. And unlike big national chains, they know their products. They are outstanding performers in niche markets. In manufacturing, they create many new concepts and ideas, making them creators of new products.
Celebrate National Mom and Pop Business Owners Day by showing your support…. shop their stores today, and everyday.
Thank you to all of our customers who have helped build our business into what it is today!

Fun At The Old House Fair

Our first vendor showcase at The Old House Fair was a great success. Stationed between the “Save a Tree” booth and “Philadelphia Soapstone” (who had a gorgeous kitchen counter on display), we had lots of visitors. Thanks to the handful of customers who came by to say hi, and to everyone else that stopped and asked an array of painting questions. You kept us on our toes.
To recap:
–       Almost all kitchen cabinets can be refinished to create a whole new look and feel in your space.
–       We can take care of drywall and plaster repairs as a result of water damage before we prepare and paint your walls (just be sure the roof has been properly repaired first).
–       Exterior painting can be a bit expensive, but can be broken down into smaller sections if needed, and a high quality exterior paint job will last for years, saving you time and money in the long run.
–       If you happen to own a Victorian Home and want to restore it to it’s original splendor, we can help you choose appropriate historic colors.
–       If you live in the Philadelphia area and have not visited the Ebeneer Maxwell Mansion, it is well worth the trip.
John Neill Painting service area includes The Main Line, Philadelphia, Center City Philadelphia, Bala Cynwyd, Gladwyne, Narberth, Penn Valley, Merion, Wynnewood, Ardmore, Haverford, Bryn Mawr, Villanova, Wayne, Devon, Berwyn, Paoli, Malvern, Chester Springs, Newtown Square, West Chester, Blue Bell, Gwynedd, Jenkintown, Rydal, Meadowbrook, and Chestnut Hill.
